1. Home Energy Management System – HEMS

HEMS is an integrated product based on Cybrotech control technology which can be utilized in several scenarios:
a) to maximize in-house consumption of self generated renewable energy
b) to minimize cost of electrical energy
c) to contribute to local micro grid balance as a prosumer
d) to assure autonomy of user connected to unstable electrical grid

Key features of HEMS:

  • monitoring and control of energy flow from and to the grid,
  • monitoring and control of electrical energy from house owner’s renewable energy source (photovoltaic plant, wind generator,…),
  • integration of electrical (batteries, EV) or thermal energy (heat, cold) storage,
  • integration of battery management system (BMS) and control of charging/discharging process,
  • real time management of in-house electrical energy flow (charge and discharge of batteries, management of loads by scheduling and by available renewable electricity),
  • integration of thermal storage (hot water, heat pump, air conditioner, room temperature),
  • forecasting of energy generation according to weather forecast,
  • prediction of energy and thermal consumption according to the weather forecast and historical data by utilization of machine learning methods,
  • HIQ Universe cloud solution: visualization of energy flow for the owner, graphical user interface to motivate user in achieving HEMS /BEMS goals, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly data, KPI calculation,
  • support for O&M and fleet management,
  • grouping of HEMS into clusters and aggregation of data for business partners,
  • connection to DSM/Area EMS server to act as a prosumer according DR requests,
  • HEMS can be fully integrated with smart home solutions.

HIQ Universe cloud enables monitoring and analyses of operation of HEMS/BEMS related to use cases and it’s specifics: from end user’s and for business partner’s perspective. HIQ Universe cloud offers several standard functionalities and enables scalability to manage several hundreds of xEMS devices.

2. Electrical Energy Storage – EES

EES is a vital technology to enable better fulfillment of HEMS/BEMS targets.

For HEMS users EES is typically between 5 kWh and 50 kWh, while BEMS implementations can utililize a couple of 100 kWh of storage capacity.

  • different battery types (LiFePO4, lead acid) are supported,
  • BMS is fully integrated into Cybrotech control system,
  • Aaccurate SOC (State of charge), SOH (State of health) calculation,
  • fully tested control system assures long battery life-time.

3. Smart Grid integration

Robotina’s HEMS is ready for future SmartGrids!

HEMS (Home Energy Management System) /BEMS (Building Energy Management System) devices shall be proactively used in the electrical grid to contribute in balancing of the regional instabilities by fulfilling DR (Demand Response) requirements:

  • to lower consumption or feed electrical power into the grid upon DR request (load shift, renewable energy sources, discharge of batteries),
  • to consume electrical power from the grid upon DR request ( charge of batteries, load shift).

Individual HEMS/BEMS are grouped into clusters on the level of xEMS server, which communicates to DSM (Demand Side Management) or Area EMS server.

Several HEMS will operate like a cluster controlled by Area energy management server representing the complete capacity of the cluster to the Demand Response server on the side of electrical grid.

Since SmartGrid concepts and business models will evolve in the next few years (f.e. dynamic price of energy), remote upgrade of features is a vital functionality of Cybrotech. HEMS/BEMS will change its operation as conditions from the grid operator/energy trader will be changing and benefit from proactive participation.
